End of Life Services

Quality of Life Consultation

During our initial quality of life consultation, Dr. Pollock will be happy to discuss any concerns you have regarding your pet, their quality of life and what you can expect when making the difficult decision to say good bye.

When you have decided that the time is right to say goodbye to your beloved pet, please call and schedule an appointment.

On Arrival

When Dr. Pollock arrives at your home, he will spend a few minutes discussing the euthanasia process and going through some necessary paperwork. Essentially, this form gives Dr. Pollock permission to proceed with the euthanasia. Generally, people pay for the euthanasia service prior to or at the beginning of the visit so their focus can be solely on their pet when the process begins.

Sedation

To ensure your pet is comfortable and free from anxiety during the process, Dr. Pollock will administer a sedative to your pet.  This sedative is given by injection and will put your dog or cat into a very comfortable, deeply relaxed state. The injection is similar to receiving a vaccine and may, very briefly sting.  The injection is the best way to ensure your pet is relaxed and stress-free for the process.  Most of the time it takes about 5 to 15 minutes for your pet to be fully relaxed. Once sedated, an iv catheter will be placed in a vein in a hind leg.

Euthanasia

The final injection will be given via the iv catheter.  While injecting the solution your pet will peacefully stop breathing. After the injection is given, Dr. Pollock will listen for a heart beat and let you know when they have passed.

Aftercare

Dr. Pollock can refer you to a very reliable, local cremation service that offers true private cremations (ashes back) as well as group cremations (no ashes back). If you prefer, he can take your pet with him and make these arrangements for you and deliver the ashes and any keepsakes back to you within a week or two.
